Merry Christmas!

I hope you each had a relaxing Christmas (or whatever holiday you celebrate at this time of year).  Ours was absolutely wonderful.  The kids got Lego set after Lego set.  I'm off from work until the 2nd (yay!!) and today began Lego building day. I love nothing more than sitting at the dining room table on the laptop while the kids are putting together Legos at the other end!  Total joy to me.

Today while the kids put together Legos, I was able to help Designed by Soco with some layouts for her new template release "Year in Review.  How great are these templates??!!  They are great for a cover or back page of a 2014 book, a 12 Days of Christmas layout, or even just using them for template with lots of pictures!  I loved playing with these today and can't wait to use them for future layouts!  You can read more about them on her blog and you can snag them over at Mscraps

And here are my layouts.  I used one as a year in review; and I plan on using it for my 2014 book (maybe I'll have that done by 2016!  LOL).  And the next one I used for our 2013 trip to Disneyland.  Slight alteration and I had a large photo of my daughter and Merida!

Happy Scrapping!

Insomnia - love or hate?

For those who may know me, you know I LOVE to sleep.  I have Multiple Sclerosis, so am often exhausted and sleepy.  I've been on a round of medication for the last 4 days that has caused me to not sleep well.  Though I went to bed at 9pm last night, I woke up at 2:45 and could not get back to sleep!  I finally dragged myself from bed at 4am and so far have written my Christmas letter (yay!), started stuffing envelopes for said cards, written this blog post, posted my Mousescrappers Challenge, scrapped a scrapbook layout, and re-calculated how long it takes to drive from Texas to Port Canaveral, Fl!  whew!  and I still have 30 minutes before my alarm goes off.  Anyone else suffer from insomnia often?  If I had a day or two like this each week, I might actually get my house cleaned!  LOL

Anyway, I thought I'd share with you that I'm hosting the Mousescrappers Weekly Challenge #263 for the next 2 weeks.  If you come and join me and scrap a page about a Peaceful Disney related moment (can be Disney at Home), you can get this fabulous template from Holly Kay Weber.

Here's a layout I made with the template.  I couldn't stop giggling at this Trunk or Treat event when "Elsa" would play a game/sport.  And then when she would be next to one of the other 3 dozen Elsa's there, I giggled even harder!

Here's hoping that the next few nights can be restful and peaceful for us all!

I enjoyed playing with this kit and started my 2014 (yes, you read that right!!) daily December photo a day layout.  I was so excited that I'm actually scrapping pictures I took just days ago!  That never happens, as you can see my next layout was from 2011!

You can pick up this kit and more at her shop.

I also thought this was the perfect kit to make my 2014 Dear Santa letter, and I've packaged it up in jpeg and pdf if you'd like to use it as well.  This freebie is for personal use only.  I hope you enjoy!!

I'm slowing wrapping up my final Christmas preparations - gifts to wrap and ship, cards to send out, and I hope that I can be completed by Saturday and enjoy this season of family and fun.  I hope you are also having a blessed season!

Festive Flowers

Can you believe 2014 is coming to a close?  There are some things that help me count down the days.  The first is work - Working in the Financial Industry I'm always a day or 3 days in advance - settlement days.  Having kids in scouts and sports means I'm constantly thinking about the next meeting or practice or game.  Working with monthly kits is another way I'm reminded that a year is coming to a close - and Romajo's P12 2014 is wrapping up it's final touches.  Have you gotten everything?  Today's new release is the P12 2014 Flowers.  You can get it at a discount this first week in Romajo's shop, and read more about it on her blog.
Here's a layout I made with a few different kits from the P12 2014 stash -
P12 2014 - Flowers
P12 2014 - April
P12 2014 - May
P12 2014 - July
P12 2014 Stamps & Paints
P12 2014 Solids 1 & 3

I hope you all have a wonderful day - I'm off to try to stay awake (slumber party all night at my house last night **yawn** - and basketball for both kids all day.  I see lots of coffee in my future!

Quick Homemade Gifts

Are you like me?  And find yourself struggling to come up with something new for family members as Christmas gifts?  If you have kids (or not!) let them paint some original artwork!  For two years in a row, my kids have painted original pieces for their family.  It's sooo easy!

All you need is:
*canvas (there are all sorts of sizes and prices at hobby stores).  I've used 10x10 for consistency recently
*paint (I like the Apple Barrel brand I get at Michaels)
*brushes (it's good to have a handful of different sizes)
*paper to protect your surface
*something to put paint in (I've used dixie cups, bowls, egg cartons)

Then you literally just let the creativity flow.  At times I need to do one layer, let it dry, and then paint a second layer.

You can then find a blank wall and start a painted canvas wall!

Have fun

Hello!  It's Saturday - and technically here in the states it's called Small Business Saturday.  One of my favorite days to shop.  If I can, I always try to shop smaller businesses, which is one reason I love digital scrapbooking - because each designer is their own boss!  It's also why I love Etsy, and plan on doing a bit of Christmas shopping this afternoon on their site!

Marieke, with Romajo designs has taken a bit of time off from designing - mostly so that she could travel to the states and go to Disneyworld!  I was so excited for her and her family to get to enjoy one of my favorite places to travel to!

She is back, and back strong!  Grab some coffee and get ready to enjoy your reading!

First, this weekend she is having a sale on her entire site!

She also has 3 new kits out today.  The rest of her P12 2014 series.  You can get Oct, Nov, and Dec to finish up your monthly projects!

There are some adorable elements in these kits!  Check out the scrapping I've been doing!

I know I typically have been making some 3x4 journal cards for you with her monthly release, and I still will!  I've just been busy scrapping and getting ready for a fun 12 days of Christmas event!  More free things!!  yay!

Lastly, Romajo participated in a collaboration with Fran B Designs & Kelsey Inspired Designs over at With Love Studios.  You can get their kit today in a grab bag for a great low price and participate in some fun challenges!  Look how fun this is!

And here is a page I made with the collaboration
Are you inspired to do some scrapping and shopping today?  Go support a small business!  Happy Scrapping!  Melidy Designs, my other designer I CT for is also having a sale today!

Santa Hands

What can you do with a hand?  Over the years, my 10 year old and 7 year old have brought home some awesome art made with their hands.  I treasure those keepsakes tremendously!  One of the cleverest things I've received was from Asher's Kindergarten teacher.  He brought home the most adorable Santa on a 6 inch tile.  I waited for Ada to bring one home when she was in Kindergarten, but we had moved schools; and while they were still in the same district, the teachers didn't do the same thing!  So, I made my own.  I now have Santa hands from both of them in Kindergarten.  Last Christmas, Asher was in 4th and it was probably the last year I could fit his hand on a 6 inch tile.  I found it only appropriate that this is also his last year in the elementary school!  I plan on doing a similar hand print for my treasure box when Ada is in 4th grade.

How to do it?  It's super easy.  And outside of the drying time needed - very fast!

You will need:
  • 6x6 tile (get at hardware store - I found that a beige one works better than a white one)
  • paint (I use the washable paint you can find at craft stores - easy to use and I already had it on hand for other art projects!)
    • red
    • white
    • flesh color of your choice
    • black
  • white glitter
  • red glitter paint
  • some sort of spray sealant (used to make sure the paint doesn't come off I guess. LOL)
  • paint brushes (I found the best ones are the spongy ones so you can get the paint into the grooves of the hands easier)
  • white pom pom
  • hot glue gun
Here are the steps I did to make these
  1. Wash tile
  2. using the sponge brush, apply paint to hand - white on 4 fingers and lower portion of palm (beard), red on thumb (hat) and flesh color to upper part of palm (face)
  3. apply hand to tile (you might have to help squish their hand down to get paint on good enough.  It's also possible you might have to fill in some gaps if the hand has arches that are interesting)
  4. apply glitter to white and red
  5. after dry, paint a "hat" on the top of the "head" by filling in red and a white trim.  Add glitter
  6. after dry, add face - I used black for eyes and red glitter paint for mouth & nose
  7. after dry, spray with sealant
  8. apply white pom pom with hot glue gun
When all dry, you can have your child write their name on front or back - with the year so you can always remember when it was made :)
Here are some pictures throughout the process.

Have fun!

Digital Scrapbook Day!

Did you know!?  Today is Digital Scrapbook Day.  There are tons of free and sale items out on the internet.  It's the first Saturday in November, and this year it happened to be the day after Halloween.  I'm in a sugar coma this morning! LOL

I have a couple things to advertise to you today.  The first is that Melidy Designs has a SALE on her items!

The second is that Romajo Designs also has a SALE going on.  This one is also a retirement sale, so if there is anything you want, go grab it!

Lastly is a FREE blog train that Romajo Designs has participated in, and you can get this great mini kit called Time for Change!  You can find her piece at her blog.

I'm off to make a blanket (one of those tie fleece blankets) for my son.  He needed a larger one for this winter.  They say it's going to be colder than normal.  eek!  But, after that I'm back to do some scrapping!  I hope you make time to enjoy the buzz online this weekend due to Digital Scrapbooking Day!!!

Marieke with Romajo Scraps is heading to the States to go to Disneyworld!  She has no new release this week, but is hosting her Autumn Cleaning Sale!  - DEEP Discouts!  If you'd like to grab some for your stash before they are gone for good!  Check it out at her store.  Sale started today, and will go on until she's home from her trip (around Oct 26).

I hope you all have a great weekend!  I've been relaxing with my girl while my husband took our son camping with a Boy Scout troop this weekend.  They survived a wicked storm we had last night!  I can't wait to hear all the adventures they had!

Color Fawn - new by Romajo

Ok, where did this weekend go?  I feel like I just left work on Friday!  I'm learning to sew - so Saturday morning I spent time at the fabric store - and I think my 7 year old is also addicted to the new hobby!  Might be some creative juices coming from this house in a new way!!

Also new this weekend was golf at our house! My daughter started golf lessons and loved it.  I'm happy to see her enjoying something, but a bit nervous at all the future costs that this sport entails!  whoo!

In the world of digital scrapbooking, I have something new for you to see from Romajo - Color Fawn is inspired by an Indian Summer they are experiencing over seas.  I love the cute little animals in this kit, and this kit quite a few elements for you to check out!  It's on sale this week!!

And here is what I made with this kit - I also used a template from Little Green Frog Designs (retired).

Hope you all have a good week - creating some memories!

P12 - 2014 September and TWO freebies from me!

Hello everyone!  I'm loving this cooler weather we are finally having (well, it's in the 80s. LOL)  Fall is my favorite season.  I love busting out Peppermint Mochas from Starbucks, sweaters, scarves and actually getting outside for a change!  We're spending Saturday smoking some meat - yum!!  My husband and Father in Law are going to use some skills they learned last month at their judging course!  I hope you have some great plans to usher out September.  I can't believe October is right around the corner!

This weekend I'm bringing to you the August P12 2014 kit featuring the start of the cooler weather!  While fall weather in Texas technically doesn't start until the end of October/beginning of November, I like to pretend...and scrapbooking cooler weather icons is just the right way to do it!

Here is your September version, and it's on sale this first week

Here is the kit preview.  It's on sale at Romajo's shop
And you can read more about it on her blog

Here's what I made - I love this template by Little Green Frog Designs (who is unfortunately for me, but fortunately for her, no longer selling her designs due to other career advancements) - I love how it's broken into two eye loving clusters!

This month I made you two more journaling cards if you're collecting them throughout the year!  I also finally got to make the August ones (sheesh, this has been a busy few weeks!).  I hope you enjoy them!
